Plot

Some of The Travels of Sophie is a collection of short stories highlighting key moments from the life of Sophia Lestari in relation to her search for the Eridanus spacecraft. Each chapter is a self contained story though each follows linearly to create an overarching story. SOTTOS is unique in having specific chapter titles, and the chapters are as follows:

Beginnings - Journal entry by Sophie at 13 years old explaining the series of events that led her to the Science Institution and discovering that the Eridanus expedition had gone missing

Sophie and The Scientist - details Sophie's work with the Science Institution and the acquiring of the teleport watch

First Trip - Sophie and another scientist, Aldred, begin their expedition to track down the Eridanus, starting on the planet Neptune

The Monster Planet - Sophie and Aldred encounter danger on their expedition and ending in tragedy

Travelling Alone - Sophie adjusts to a solo research expedition as a 14 year old and struggles to cope

Zegrafa - at 15 years old, Sophie ends up trapped in less than ideal circumstances due to the teleport watch malfunctioning

Field Mission - Sophie represents the Science Institution at a geothermal facility on another planet and investigates an inefficiency in their energy collection system

A Strange Signal - Following the events of Flauraan and Halapatov, Sophie encounters a shape shifting alien in need on another planet and does what she can to send them home

The Story of Rachel - exploring the grim experiences of Sophie's siblings in foster care from her sister Rachel's perspective

Discovering the Truth - Sophie finally figures out what happened to the Eridanus expedition

Closing Time - a now 18 year old Sophie updates her journal with the results of her journey and what she gets to do now

Trivia

• Some of the Travels of Sophie (or SOTTOS) was created as a prequel/sequel to Flauraan and Halapatov, in order to flesh out the backstory of Sophie, who operates as a side character in the former novels.

• The story takes place over multiple years, beginning with Sophie writing a journal at 13 years old and finishing with a similar journal entry as a bookend when she was 18 years old.

• Closing Time alludes to and leads directly into the Alliance short story The School Camp Experience as Sophie prepares for her orientation training on the planet Neon and meets future friend Beth Colden.

• SOTTOS is the first released Staarus novel not to be in the first person POV of Abigail Shurn. Future novels would contain the alternating perspectives of both Sophie and Abigail.
