Stained Glass Glow

Stained Glass Glow

I stand in the kitchen washing dishes as one must often do

I glance behind me and get caught staring

down the room

down the hallway

to the front door

Light filtering through stained glass, dappling landlord beige walls

This place is a fortress, a sanctuary

A place that saved me

And that door is a portal

through which my friends can find

food and warmth and safety
